We had another great market day last week, selling out of everything but a bundle of chard. Not too shabby!
There's a chance we'll have a handful of zucchini and summer squash this week, maybe even a few patty pan squashes. Most other items from the season so far will be returning this week.
New to the table this week
Zucchini, summer squash, patty pan squash: Quantities will be very limited, but there's a good chance we'll have a few of each to sell. Next week: squash-aggedon.
- Our zucchini is a Costata Romanesco variety ("Pantheon") and so has more distinct ridges and a slightly thicker outer layer.
- The summer squash is the brightest yellow we've ever grown ("Tempest" variety).
- Patty-pan squash are the funky bunch of the summer squash crew. Our variety ("Y-Star") will be bright yellow on the outer perimeter, green toward the center.
Familiar Friends
Sugar snap peas: Last week's harvest was a start, but we expect a pretty good showing of peas this week, picked the morning-of the market for maximum sweetness.
Cabbages: A round of green cabbages are looking perfect for the week, and we'll have a few more heads of "Minuet" napa cabbage, too.
Radishes: Golden helios and french breakfast.
Beets: at least a few bunches each of chioggia, touchstone gold, and "babybeat" baby red beets.
Hakurei Turnips: These are probably the last of the salad turnips for a week or two. Excellent raw, as a snack or in salads -- peppery like a radish, but a bit sweeter.
Greens: bunched collards, lacinato kale, rainbow chard. Quantities of chard and kale will be a bit more limited this week, but we'll have lots of fresh collards to enjoy.
Coming soon
We have a very good shot at having some green beans on the table next week -- just in time for the 4th!
See you Saturday!
